Competitive Advantage

The key advantages of the Versamune™ nanoparticle platform technology over other immunotherapy technologies include:

  • Targeting of the Immune System: Versamune™ exploits the efficient uptake of the nanoparticles containing disease-related antigens by dendritic cells, the most effective antigen presenting cells of the immune system.
  • Broad Applicability: Versamune™ can be used with a wide variety of disease antigens to protect against and to treat multiple diseases. The technology is capable of breaking the immune system tolerance to antigens, which is important for a successful cancer immunotherapy.
  • Simple and cost effective: Unlike other current multi-component technologies, no additional adjuvants and immune stimulators such as DNA or CpG are required, leading to very simple and cost effective drug formulations consisting only of the biodegradable nanoparticles and the disease-associated antigen(s).
  • Safety: Unlike existing adjuvants, the mechanism by which Versamune™ activates the immune system involves MAP Kinase signaling without induction of TNF-alpha, lessening the potential for toxic inflammatory responses. Inflammatory immune responses are a key drawback to the safety profile of other immune system adjuvants (immune-stimulators).
  • Potency: Versamune™ activates the immune system unlike neutral lipid technologies. It eliminates the need to separately manufacture and co-administer additional immune stimulants. Antigen delivery to the immune system prevents rapid elimination of the protein or peptide antigen from the blood circulation, therefore overcoming a major drawback of protein and peptide immunotherapies. Versamune is suitable for direct injection of the patient, as opposed to the complex ex-vivo immunotherapeutic treatment (e.g. Provenge®, DCvax®).
